All About 3 Bald Math Guys
This idea of 3 Bald Math Guys was concocted while traveling on various bus trips while coaching softball. Bringing the idea to Professors Detsinh and Jordan in the fall of 2025, it seemed to take shape over the course of several months, with the creation of the first episodes coming out in the spring of 2026. Please give us any feedback you'd like, and, if you would like to appear as a guest, please let us know that as well.
Enjoy!

The Math Guys

Professor Detsinh
I have worked in the field of statistics, owned a business and taught at several different colleges for a combined 15 years. Some of my interests outside of teaching math and statistics include spending time with my family, watching my children play sports, watching most professional sports (NFL, PBA, NBA, WNBA, MLB), bowling, disc golfing, cooking, racing RC cars, and occasionally going to the casino to try my luck!
Professor Rob
Having taught for 32 years at the collegiate level and 3 years at the high school level, there has been quite a bit of change in the teaching of mathematics, mostly on the application side of things. Math is Math!, says Robert Parr, in the movie, "The Incredibles, 2". This is very true. Math is pretty static, but how we teach it can be extremely fluid. Seeing my students relish the times that they understand the material we discuss is beyond satisfying.
Other than teaching math, I (along with Professors Detsinh and Jordan) have an affinity toward sports. Mathletics will be one of our topics that we will discuss on various episodes and, besides the analytics side of things, we'll discuss some of the quirky things that happen. I've been a collegiate baseball and softball coach for a total of 18 years combined, including 15 years as a head coach. Nearly 35 years ago, while in grad school, I came up with a concept called the Level of Contact, which is very similar to the exit velocity and launch angle ideas used commonly today. As Professor Jordan mentioned, he and I have been men's golf league partners for several years, still eyeing the elusive Men's League Championship (which does include preferred parking at the golf course!)

Professor Jordan
I have been teaching math for fifteen years, ten at the junior high and high school levels and five at the college level. I started down this path because of my love for athletics and coaching, but quickly learned that my passion is teaching because coaching is teaching!
Outside of teaching, my interests include watching or playing sports and games, yard work, and cooking. I love keeping track of all things NFL. I play in a fantasy football dynasty and never miss a Dallas Cowboys game. I catch a lot of grief for loving the Cowboys, but I'll never quit! I also love playing golf. Professor Rob and I have been men's league golf partners for many years. When it comes to the yard, I'm all about the lines on the lawn, the flowers growing in the landscaping, and watching the garden grow so we can make delicious treats for all our friends. I also love cooking, grilling, and/or smoking delicious food. A perfect weekend for me is playing 18 holes, cutting the grass while something is preparing in the smoker, and watching the Cowboys win.
